SENATE. Hp. T, W. Bickets Lobby Bill Passes House by a .Large Ma jority No Important Acts yet Enacted into Law. The Supplement sent out cith the Times last week to its count v read- ers contained the opening proceed ings of the legislature, together with the Governor's; Message, in full; and touch other valuable reading. The various committees have been named; and both bodies are now in Working order, most of the work, so far, having been done by committees. Our representative, Mr. Bickett, is Chairman of the committee on In jane Asylums, one of the most important lu the House.- He is also on the fol lowing committees : Judiciary, Edfw cation, Appropriations, and probably others. As predicted in these col umns Mr. Bickett is taking an active part in legislation. Up to date no very important bills nave passed. At the Democratic caucus on Tuesdav night Hon. F. M. Simmons was unanimously" renomi nated to succeed himself as United States Senator. He will be formally elected next Tuesday. The Repub licans will cast their votes' for Spen cer B. Adams. On Tuesday and Wednesday of nous public schools as to enrollment and y attendance. A good number made special reports of improvements m houses and equipment. Kew li braries were reported for Rock Spring School in Harris Township. Miss Ouida Tacke' teacher, and Wheless School in Cypress Creek, Miss.Bessie Woodlief, teacher. The next session will be . held Saturday, oy. tn. The committee appointed to select a suitable present for Superintendent White, which ,the Teachers desired to present him a a mirk of their es teenTmade their 'report, and the pres ent selected was delivered to him at the meeting jast Saturday. The writer feels sure that all the readers of Thb Times will join in ex pressions of sympathy to its editor who is now in Raleigh attending the mneraiintne death ot his father which ocuurred in Frankhnton on Tuesday morning last at the home of a relative whom he was visiting. His death however, Ijiad been expected for seme time, as the nature of the disease from which he was suffering for a man of his years (87) could no be hoped to prove otherwise than fatal. He had M v. A stroke of paralysis several months ago still further added to his weakness, but he was only jaken se riously ill ten days ago while in Franklinton. In Raleigh Mr. Thomas was a well know citizen with many friends. He taught school in Ralefeh and Wake county for about forty years, and many of Raleigh's well aged citizens were his. pupils.
